Our approach
Yinson Renewables is always looking at ways to support communities in and around our wind farm projects.
Our approach is to engage early and with transparency, to make sure community feedback is considered in the design and layout of any project site.
Supporting local community development
Wind farms offer a range of economic, employment and environmental benefits, both locally and for the country as a whole. Wind farms:
- Increase the resilience of our local and national energy infrastructure, and protect against risks from things like extreme storms or drought that disrupt regional energy supply.
- Bring jobs to the regions, and support local economies.
- Create indirect economic benefits for local food, accommodation and other service providers.
- Offer a low-impact, high-return land use solution that can work alongside existing land use such as agriculture and forestry.
- Significantly increase the amount of renewable energy Aotearoa New Zealand is generating.
- Help Aotearoa New Zealand’s efforts to mitigate climate change and transition to a low-emissions economy.
Funding for communities
We’re committed to establishing community funds in the areas where we operate, to support community-led projects and initiatives.
We’re committed to working with local people to ensure that community funds are established and allocated to their needs.
